The purpose of the IATF 16949 technical specification is the development of a quality management system with the objective of continuous improvement, emphasizing the prevention of errors and the reduction of waste from the production phase. IATF 16949 is applied in the design / development phases of a new product, production and, where relevant, installation and service of products related to the automotive world. It is based on the ISO 9000 standard.
The requirements are applicable throughout the entire production chain. Recently also vehicle assembly plants are confronting the IATF 16949 certificate.
IATF 16949 was born out of the need to avoid the duality between requirements of VDA 6.1 (German Automotive), EAFQ (France), AVQS (Italy) … and QS-9000 (American Automotive). IATF 16949 is considered favorable to the previous management schemes, which it replaces. The current version of the specification is IATF 16949.
The ISO 9001: 2015 Standard elaborated by the International Standards Organization (ISO), determines the requirements for a Quality Management System (QMS), which can be used for internal application by organizations, regardless of whether the product or the service is provided by a public organization or private company, whatever its size, for its certification or for contractual purposes.
Depending on the country, the same standard can be called “ISO 9001” in a different way, adding the name of the body that represents it within the country: UNE-EN-ISO 9001: 2015 (Spain), IRAM-ISO 9001: 2015, etc., accompanied by the year of the last update of the standard.
ISO 14001 is the International Standard for Environmental Management Systems (EMS), which helps an organization identify, prioritize and manage environmental risks, as part of its normal business practices.
The purpose of this International Standard is to provide organizations with a frame of reference to protect the environment and respond to changing environmental conditions, in balance with socio-economic needs. This standard specifies requirements that allow an organization to achieve the intended results that it has established for its environmental management system.
